Opening Day Midway Little League Baseball and Softball’s 50th season

Saturday marked the 50th season for Midway Little League Baseball and Softball.

Former president Wade Miller says the great thing about Little League is how inclusive it is for everyone.

“Anybody can play it, it’s not for the best of the best,” says Miller.

“It’s for anybody that loves the game. Just because some kid may not be the best stick in town, he loves baseball. Well he gets an opportunity in Little League.”

While anyone can play, coaches like Rick Brophy say there is a reason they keep score, “Most of these people we know and like and enjoy, but there is a competitive element to it that makes it have a little bit of an edge on it at times.”

While winning is great, little leaguers like Brooks Jurgensen say it’s all about having fun.

“I learned that it’s not all about winning. It’s just about having fun… now I know that there is always another game,” says Jurgensen.

The league says with public support and an increase in population, they expect to see another 50 years!
