Zoë Kravitz admits she “was never really into comic books”—with the exception of Batman.

“I think the whole Batman world has always been the most interesting to me,” Kravitz told the press, as reported by SlashFilm. “… That world was always really intriguing to me.”

The 31-year-old actress made the comments Friday during the TCA panel for Hulu’s High Fidelity series, in which she plays the lead character of Rob. But it wasn’t long before Kravitz was questioned about her role as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman reboot.

Kravitz was, of course, tight-lipped about the project, but said she was excited about portraying one of the most iconic characters in comic book and film history.

“The script is wonderful. It’s really grounded and deep and I can’t say more than that, because I’ll get fired,” she said.

Kravitz joins a long list of actresses who have played the anti-heroine/love-interest of Bruce Wayne, following Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry. But there was one particular Catwoman actress who served as Kravtiz’s greatest source of inspiration.

“Michelle Pfeiffer — her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic,” she said. “I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity and I’m excited to dive into that.”

She continued: “I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power. That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very kind of masculine power, and Catwoman represents very feminine power — slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

The Batman is set to hit U.S. theaters June 25, 2021. Kravitz will star alongside, Jeffrey Wright, Jonah Hill, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, and Robert Pattinson, who play the titular hero.
