The Belton ISD has created a three-level coronavirus alert system.

“Our alert status levels are designed to increase clarity and make it easier to communicate about changing conditions,” Belton Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith said in a message to parents.

The first level, in effect now, involves active monitoring of the virus, no cases of which have been confirmed in Bell County.

The second level would go into effect in the event of community-spread cases of the virus in the county and the third if cases are confirmed among students or staff.

“My team is in touch with local health officials as we monitor this evolving situation and make plans on how to respond,” Smith said.

“Belton ISD routinely uses hospital-grade cleaning equipment and solutions to help ensure that our campuses and buildings stay disinfected. We are prepared to escalate such practices if necessary,” he said.

“Our health and emergency services staff have scheduled meetings during spring break to review and confirm their plans,” he said.

The district’s students are on spring break this week.

Classes resume on March 16.
