Over the course of the NFL offseason, there have been multiple players around the NFL who have tested positive for coronavirus, including Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott’s agent revealed last week that the running back was one of multiple Cowboys players who came down with the virus. Although Elliott wasn’t happy that news of his positive test was leaked, the former first-round pick has decided to offer a few details about what life has been like since his diagnosis.
The good news for Cowboys fans is that it seems like Zeke is already on the road to recovery after exhibiting a few symptoms.
“I’m feeling good,” Elliott said on Twitch Wednesday, via WFAA. “I would say I had maybe one or two days where I felt symptoms, and even then, it wasn’t too bad. I had a cough and a little bit shortness of breath. Now, obviously I feel good. I feel normal.”
Although it’s unclear how or when Elliott caught the virus, his mom, Dawn Elliott, did offer a few details about the circumstances. According to Dawn, Zeke had been hanging around someone who ended up testing positive three days after they had been hanging out. Not only was Zeke in the group, but his sister and Dawn were also hanging out with the person. After they found out the person tested positive, all three members of the Elliott family were tested and Zeke was the only one who tested positive for the virus.
Since coming down with the virus, Elliott has basically had to sit at home, and from the sound of it, that’s what he’s going to be doing for at least another week.
“I still can’t work out,” Elliott said. “I got to wait. I could have went and gotten retested this week, I just decided it won’t hurt to wait another week and give myself more time to rest up, but I feel good.”
Now that Elliott has had the virus, he’s put more thought into whether or not the NFL should play this year, and apparently, he wants to see it done, but only if the league can do it in a safe way.
“I got corona, and it really didn’t affect me much,” Elliott said, via CowboysSI.com. “But a lot of people have kids. They may have kids with asthma. Their parents or grandparents may live with them. I do hope we have a season, but it has to be right.”
The Cowboys are one of an estimated 10 teams that have had at least one player test positive this year. Besides Dallas, a few other teams that are known to have a player who’s tested positive are the Broncos, Steelers, Texans, 49ers, Buccaneers and Rams.
With the country now dealing with an uptick in cases and with training camp around the corner, the NFLPA isn’t taking any chances about seeing the virus spread. Over the weekend, the player’s association issued an advisory asking players to stop working out in groups.
