With the 4th of July quickly approaching, the Waco Fire and Police Departments remind residents that it is illegal to possess and discharge fireworks inside city limits.

The illegal use of fireworks is considered a crime and can result in the confiscation of fireworks and fines up to $2000.

The City of Waco police and fire officials are stepping up overall enforcement this year and will be watching “known areas” of the town where past reports have been reported.

Fireworks are responsible for approximately 18,500 fires annually and account for more than 12,500 fireworks-related injuries.

Remember, even if consumer fireworks are legal in your area, they still come with risk.

If you light fireworks, keep safety in mind for you, your family and those around you.

Shooting a gun in the air is also against the law and is an arrestable offense.

It’s dangerous as well because what goes up, must come down and you will be responsible for any damages done.

To report illegal fireworks call (254) 750-7500.
