Rockdale High School seniors held a protest outside their campus Friday morning after a Black senior said she was the victim of a racial verbal assault.

Despite the rain, seniors could be heard chanting “No justice, no peace” and “Black lives matter” outside of the school.

Rockdale ISD says administration investigated the incident. However, due to seniors being allowed to leave early depending on their class schedule, the accused seniors had already taken off for the day, according to Rockdale ISD Superintendent Denise Monzingo.

“Our kids decided to protest regarding a situation that had come up at the high school, and I tell ya I’m really proud of them. They had a good protest, and it’s something that high school kids need to learn that it’s their right to do that,” she shared.

Superintendent Monzingo called the protest “very peaceful” and said she witnessed “no violence.”

Seniors Alondra Rubio & Alyssa Grady began to campaign for this protest via social media, encouraging their class to demand that the accused students face disciplinary punishment for their actions.

Now, students say they’ll wait to see the administration’s responses. However, should there be none, students say they’re ready to return to protesting on Monday, Dec 14.
