Temple police are receiving calls from residents about loud noises and booms in the area, but say there’s no reason for concern.“Fort Hood confirmed they are conducting training exercises through the end of the week, and those loud noises or booms should be no cause for concern,” police said in a tweet Tuesday.
Belton police received similar calls.
“Those are the sounds of freedom and we cannot make them stop,” they said in a Facebook post.
Troops from the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, are firing 105mm and 155mm artillery shells from two training areas into an impact area in the center of the range, the post said.
“Residents surrounding the post will hear loud booms due to sounds of the firing bouncing off cloud cover. The training is scheduled to end Jan. 23,” Thomas Rheinlander, Fort Hood’s director of public affairs, said.
