A ribbon cutting Thursday marked the official opening of McLennan County’s 80,000-square-foot multipurpose facility.
The name of the $32 million building, BASE, was chosen because it’s on the site of World War I-era Rich Field Army Air Base and because it’s an acronym for “Business, Arts, Sports and Entertainment.”
The building, which can accommodate as many as 3,400 people, is designed for everything from weddings to conventions to trade shows and banquets and even basketball tournaments.
