The MMA class at the Dewey Park Recreation Center has a student who stands out in more ways than one.Quincy Jones is significantly older than anyone else in the class, but he is also blind. It is for that reason he enrolled for the lessons.

“Protecting myself since I am blind would actually be helpful, to have that knowledge.”

Jones suffers from Glaucoma and knew he would eventually be completely blind but an accident last year sped up that process.

“I lost my vision and SUV backed into me over off of Franklin and hit my head pretty hard on the pavement and lights out.”

Quincy has seen many hardships in his life, even at one time being homeless. He has fought through all challenges however.

In a video posted by Quincy’s friend Jeromie Miller, he can be seen riding a bike months after losing his eyesight.

Quincy hopes his determination will be an inspiration to the other students in the class.

“Encourage them to be a little bit stronger and to not be afraid.”
