Patients and survivors gathered Friday morning at the Baylor Scott & White Center in Killeen to give cancer the boot!

The “Give Cancer the Boot” event was held to commemorate Cancer Survivor Day which lands on the first Sunday in June every year.

Survivors spoke about their experiences and Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra issued a proclamation.

The hospital wants to encourage patients to use hope in their fight against the disease.

“We have a bunch of modalities here that are going to help you defeat this disease,” says Edward Kelsey, manager of Baylor Scott & White Killeen Cancer Center.

“Maintain hope and don’t give up and with the support of people around you, your loved ones and the support of this center, we can eradicate cancer,” he says.

This is the second year the event was held.
Children’s activities included coloring and horseshoe games.
