LaVar Ball tried to talk Lonzo into staying with Big Baller Brand

The past few months have obviously been a hectic time for the Ball family. Between the Alan Foster scandal, LaMelo Ball’s NCAA ineligibility and, now, Lonzo’s trade to New Orleans, the drama seemingly hasn’t let up for LaVar and his family.

In a sense, that non-stop drama is convenient when you have a reality TV series that focuses on your family. There’s no shortage of material.

And Sunday’s season finale of Ball in the Family focused on Alan Foster and Big Baller Brand’s downfall.

We knew going into the show’s fourth season that Foster’s alleged embezzlement would be covered, and it was indeed saved for the final episode. While the show’s purported “Alan Foster news” conversation between LaVar and Lonzo was staged for the cameras, there was a final plea from LaVar to have Lonzo remain with the family brand.

At the end of the episode, LaVar and his wife, Tina, sat down with Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo. He tried to convince them to stay onboard with the brand. All three sons had decided to distance themselves from Big Baller Brand given the negativity and growing scandal.

LaVar and Lonzo had the following exchange.

LaVar: We all emotional right now on what Alan has done. My first thing was “let’s shut the brand down.” But I believe we can go forward with the Big Baller Brand. Because how am I going to let go of something that me and your mom created for y’all, man. We a family, man. And ain’t nobody ever going to tear that up.

Lonzo: I just want to separate because of all the negativity and stuff going on. When I look at it, I see Alan when I see Triple B’s because of everything he’s done for us.”

LaVar: But if you look at it, Alan Foster ain’t Big Baller Brand. We are. The brand is good. The brand is freaking … us. As a family. Be smart about it and don’t throw away all your hard work because you’re mad.

The episode ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger as LaVar asked Lonzo what he was thinking about doing, and the screen then faded to black.

Lonzo has yet to officially sign with a new shoe brand in the two-plus months since the show’s filming, but he has stopped promoting Big Baller Brand entirely. In an appearance on HBO’s The Shop, Pharrell Williams advised Lonzo of the potential that would come with going his own direction.
