City of Waco to close Cameron Park Zoo, other facilities

In an effort to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus, the City of Waco is closing several city facilities, including the zoo and all libraries.

“Although we do not have confirmed positive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 within McLennan County at this time … the City of Waco is being proactive in trying to limit the community spread of the virus,” the city said in a news release.

All closures begin at 7:00 AM on Saturday March 14, 2020 and at least through midnight March 29, 2020.

The following City facilities will be closed to the public:

– City of Waco Public Libraries
– Cameron Park Zoo
– City of Waco Community Centers
– City of Waco Senior Centers
– Waco Convention Center & Visitors’ Bureau
– Texas Ranger Hall of Fame

The city said its operations will continue “as normal although we encourage everyone to conduct as much City business online as is possible.”

The city further stated the mayor and the Waco McLennan County Public Health District “strongly recommend canceling, rescheduling, or not attending events with more than 250 persons.”

It is also urging organizations that serve “high-risk populations to cancel gatherings of more than 10 people.”

The is asking residents to not attend non-essential gatherings in order to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
