Bill O’Brien has had a controversial offseason as the acting general manager of the Houston Texans, but there may be some reason behind the urgency of his moves.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said on Friday’s edition of “Get Up!” that O’Brien’s long-term future with the Texans is in some doubt.

“The interesting part about this is that we talked about the offseason (and) this is really an extension of when Bill O’Brien became the general manager — even in an unofficial capacity, before this season started — trading for Laremy Tunsil, getting a first-round pick to do so,” Darlington said, via Garrett Stepien of 247 Sports. “That becomes the question — will Bill O’Brien, in his efforts and attempts to change the culture with the Texans, get enough time as the general manager to do that? Because he is squarely on the hot seat at this point, despite the fact that he only has one losing season since he joined the team in 2014.”

O’Brien’s most controversial move has been trading wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, with the move seemingly partially stemming from some personal dislike of the wide receiver. He’s been rumored to be on the hot seat to varying degrees for a few years now, but the team’s lack of playoff success could reflect poorly on him going forward.
