A young group of activists just launched a podcast to share the stories of the streets in Central Texas and push for racial justice.

Behind the mic at Rogue Media Studios in Waco, Jasmine Bledsoe and De’Viar Woodson hope words can bring change and healing to the community.

 

“Somebody has to speak up. Somebody has to be the voice for people who may not want to or don’t have a voice anymore,” said Bledsoe.

A new podcast called “Stories of the Streets” will open the conversation to the entire community to better understand issues of racism, health care disparities and social justice concerns specific to Central Texans.

“Seeing someone you know in the fight, in the conversation, will inspire the next person to get involved,” said Woodson.

They want young people to make a difference now, so the next generation won’t have to experience the same stories.

“I’ve walked the walk and this is not a road I am unfamiliar with,” said Bledsoe.

Bledsoe and Woodson both grew up in Central Texas and were tapped as hosts because of their activism with local non-profits.

“Our goal is to have these people come on and tell what they’ve been through so not only are we allowing people of color to voice what they’ve been through but also educating people that are not of color on our experiences and bridging that gap,” said Bledsoe.

The podcast is bi-weekly and can be streamed on all podcast platforms.
