Deep in the Heart Film Festival kicks off this weekend. This year it will be virtual, but offers all the award-winning storytelling, Wacoans and the world have come to expect.

All the excitement of the red carpet will be from the comfort of your couch for this year’s Festival.

“We’ll be in our homes like everyone else,” explained co-founder Samuel Thomas.

Thomas says even volunteers will be working from home to make sure all the live streams run smoothly.

Thomas says this year the festival spans two weekends with everything from family movies to screenplay readings.

Screenings are $5 and the VIP pass is $25, the lowest it’s ever been to accommodate tight budgets during this pandemic.

The panel discussions and Q&A’s with filmmakers are free via the festival’s Facebook page.

“One of the themes we have is 2020 in a nutshell. That gives you an indication of what you might see. It’s sort of a catharsis of the year,” said Thomas.

Partnerships with the Waco Pride Network, Immigrants Alliance and The Brazos Theater will truly make it a community experience.

“We’re looking at this year as a chance to give back to our community because y’all have done so much good for us,” said Thomas.

This year DITHFF will also have local actors who will read screenplay submissions, so contact The Brazos Theater if you want to be involved.

More ticket information is available online.

25 News is a proud sponsor of DITHFF and will share stories throughout the next two weeks of upcoming films and how to participate.
